Are you interested in global development trends, want to have progressive views and consolidate concepts, skills, insights and attitudes related to individual, organizational, national and global human advancement? Then Holistic Leadership is for you. Holistic Leadership recognizes that in a globalized world people – particularly aspiring leaders and professionals — need a globalized, progressive and holistic mentality to live, work and serve society in an effective manner.
Overview and Background of Holistic Leadership
Holistic Leadership is a style of facilitating the comprehensive development of individuals, institutions, and the society on a whole. Its has a lot to do with connecting, and harmonizing, with the innate desire of the human being for well-being, peace, security, prosperity and happiness, and the striving for the betterment of the quality of the life of society. It responds to the challenges, and limiting factors, associated with traditional styles of leadership, and the natural yearning for wholesome fulfillment.
Holistic leadership is based on the evolving understanding that for human beings, and human societies, to be properly developed, individuals and institutions must be increasingly trained on the basis of Holistic Education, an approach to education which addresses the physical, intellectual, spiritual and ethical aspects of human life. Inadequately addressing any of these components leads to imbalances in the society, including within family, and at the workplace.
What are the academic and institutional foundations of Holistic Leadership
Holistic Education is the foundation of Holistic Leadership. It is grounded in the highly intensive service-oriented academic and research work carried out, and courses developed, by Nur University of Bolivia (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nur_University_(Bolivia)) and FUNDAEC (Foundation for the Application and Teaching of the Sciences). Graduate courses are now offered by FUNDAEC (www.bcca.org/services/lists/noble-creation/fundaec1.html), and it does so globally by way of on-line courses channeled through Lazos Learning Association (www.lazoslearning.org/about-us). Nur University also offers on-line degree courses and continues to serve as an archetypal institution for the Universities in Bolivia. The work of these institutions is in line with the conviction that the time has come when the training and education of individuals must be such that they can effectively contribute to, and facilitate, the constant holistic development and progress in all spheres of human society, including the institutional sphere, thereby strengthening related interactions, and relationships.
Holistic Leadership also draws on experience related to the United Nations Sustainable Human Development paradigm and programs, the work of many scholars related to human progress and development, years of consultancy services with the United Nations Development Programme and the Government of Belize, and over two decades of research in the field of Human Spiritual Genetics.
The core capacities connected with Holistic Leadership include:
- The capacity to learn by systematic reflection on action, within an evolutionary and consistent framework;
- The capacity to perceive and interpret the significance of current social dynamics from a broad and inclusive historical perspective;
- The capacity to systematically search for solutions;
- The capacity to effectively participate in collective decision making (consultation);
- The capacity to formulate a vision of development, based on shared values and principles, and to share the same in a manner that inspires the commitment of others towards its realization.
The Principles of Holistic Leadership
The principles according to which Holistic Leadership operate include nobility, compassion, justice, mutual aid, cooperation and reciprocity. It is worthy to note that the principles of Holistic Leadership correspond to progressive principles of Sustainable Development. Holistic Leadership support the view that a truly viable organization is one that is characterized by a spirit of unity and collaboration.

Each of the workshops will involve the creation of capacity charts – tables that facilitate a compact and relatively broad analysis of capacities or abilities related to the theme of the workshop. These charts reflect the view that to know how to carry out an act, the individual can communicate the concept, skills, qualities and attitude related thereto. The traditional view of capacities is that they are composed of only two of these four elements – concept and skills. Hence, using a workshop format, individuals engage in hands-on learning experience with peers. The learning employs workshop materials, individual and group activities, reflection, visioning exercises, and facilitator support. Together these activities are designed to achieve an integrated and transformative experience applicable to one’s personal and professional life.
